Important Note about BNB Insurance

The BNB insurance policy for 2010-11 comes into effect on September 1, 2010. Players, coaches, executive, etc are NOT covered by this insurance until they have registered as a member of BNB for the 2010-11 season.

Exception - To assist Minor associations with the large volume of participants they must register, Associations are able to register their organization by paying the Association fee and submitting an Executive list. 

This will permit their participants to be insured under their umbrella while they are finalizing member lists. Member lists MUST be in by November 30, 2010, as any participants whose names are not recorded in the office after that date will no longer be insured, until their membership registration is received.

Congratulations to Kaylee Kilpatrick

Congratulations to Kaylee Kilpatrick for her success at the Youth Olympics in Singapore.  The tournament was a 3-on-3 style of play and Team Canada finished 4th with a loss to the USA in the bronze medal game.  Click here for an article in the Telegraph Journal.

Sport New Brunswick, alongside with all the NB PSOs including Basketball New Brunswick, are launching a "THUMBS UP FOR FUNDING SPORT IN NB" campaign just in time for the Fall 2010 election.

What is "Thumbs up for Funding Sport in NB"??
An opportunity for the sports community to show the Provincial Government their desire for increased funding for amateur sport in the province of NB.

How can you help?

U17 Girls Raffle Winner

Congratulations to Nellie Wilson of Woodstock, winner of the BNB U17 Girls gift card raffle.

The U17 girls took on this fundraising initiative and collected over $400 in gift cards from numerous businesses around NB. 

Samantha Wilson sold Nellie the winning ticket.

Centre for Performance - Call for Coaches

Basketball New Brunswick will once again be offering the "Centre for Performance" (CP) Program for male and female athletes.  BNB is currently accepting coaching applications for the 2010-2011 season.  Coaches can send a short cover letter and basketball resume to info@basketball.nb.ca or fax them to 506-455-4668.  Application deadline is Tuesday, August 24th.  For more information please contact the BNB office.

Provincial teams off to CB National Championships

Go Team NB!!  Four of our BNB provincial teams will take flight to the Canada Basketball National Champions this coming weekend - teams leave on August 1, with the first day of competition starting on August 2nd. 

The men's championships are being hosted by Basketball Manitoba in Winnipeg, while Basketball Ontario is hosting the women's event in Toronto.

Kilpatrick to represent Canada at Youth Olympics

Congratulations to Kaylee Kilpatrick (Saint John) for being selected to the Canadian Youth Olympics team that will travel to Singapore this coming August.  The 4-person team will be playing a 3-on-3 format at the games.

Pickard named to National Cadette Team

Congratulations to Vanessa Pickard on being selected to the Cadette Women's National team!  This years tryout camp included 28 players from across Canada and was held in Toronto this past weekend.  The team will continue to train in Canada, followed by some exhibition games in Spain and then the U17 World Championships in France.

Vanessa was part of the 2009 Cedette team that claimed a silver medal at the FIBA Amercias tournament in Mexico, good enough to qualify Team Canada for the 2010 U17 World Championships this summer in France.

BNB to participate in Sport NB "Sport Day"!

Basketball New Brunswick will be one of eight PSOs represented at Sport Day being put on by Sport New Brunswick on July 14th at Fredericton High School.  Stations will be set up and the athletes will move around to each sport througout the day.

Basketball New Brunswick is one of the few provinces across Canada who now have trained learning facilitators to conduct the new NCCP Introduction to Competition Advanced coaching clinics.  Watch for several "Intro to Comp" and "Intro to Comp Advanced" courses being scheduled for fall 2010!!

NCCP Community Coach Clinic

BNB will be offering a NCCP Community Coach Clinic on April 11th at Bonar Law High School in Rexton, NB.

This course is intended for coaches who are coaching at the recreactional mini level and below.  It includes 3 hours of classroom and 3 hours of on-court instruction. Cost is $75

BNB will be offering an Introduction to Competition coaching clinic January 16-17, 2010 in Saint John at Harry Miller Middle School. Intro to Comp is the equivalent of the old NCCP Level 1 certification, combining both theory and technical instruction.

The Dave and Bridget Kean Memorial Basketball Tournament

The Lancaster Minor Basketball Associaiton presents the Dave and Bridget Kean Memorial Basketball Tournament. Open to all house league teams from other minor associations.

Bantam Girls Tournament in Fredericton

Again this year, the North Side Minor Basketball Association will be hosting the largest bantam girls tournament in the province. Sixteen teams will compete among three gyms, in Fredericton, November 7 – 8. For a registration fee of $190, all teams will receive 4 games, there will be skills competitions for players, and a coaches’ meeting and greet on Saturday evening.

BNB AGM & Awards Night

 

The Annual General Meeting of Basketball New Brunswick will be held on Sunday September 27th at the Hilton Hotel (Kennebecasis Room) in Saint John, beginning at 10am.
All registered Minor Associations and registered teams are encouraged to attend.

Pickard Named to National Team

Basketball New Brunswick is excited to announce the selection of Vanessa Pickard of Riverview to represent the  Atlantic region on the Canada Basketball National Cadette team. "Vanessa is a great player and a great young lady",  said president Norval McConnell, "and we are proud to  have her represent us at FIBA Americas."

The FIBA Americas U16 World Championship Qualification  Tournament for Women takes place August 10-14 in Mexico City, Mexico. Eight countries will compete, including USA, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. The top three nations will advance to the FIBA U17 World Championship for Women next year.
