BNB Members Receive Three Konica Minolta Sport NB Award Nominations

Basketball New Brunswick is pleased to have made the nominees list in a number of categories for Sport NB's annual awards event.

Our U17 boys team, fresh off a bronze medal finish at the 2019 U17 Boys National Championships, have been nominated for the BrunNet Team of the Year award. Team members include: Owen Amos (Miramichi), Norman Burry (Fredericton), Malcolm Christie (Fredericton), Aiden Connors (Saint John), Gabriel Cormier (Moncton), Benjamin Dool (Moncton), Colin Matthews (Fredericton), Nick Hofer (Memramcook), Jack Hovey (Rothesay), Luke Stewart (Saint John), Ethan Tumwine (Fredericton), Thomas MacDonald (Rothesay). The coaching staff include: Kyle Woodworth (Fredericton), Dominic Laviolette (Fredericton), Joel Everett (Woodstock), Paul Vaughan (Quispamsis). New Brunsiwck's Canada Winter Games Wheelchair Basketball team is the other nominee in the category.

In the Boston Pizza Male Coach of the Year category, Kyle Woodworth, of Fredericton, has received the nomination for leading the U17 boys to that bronze medal victory. Woodworth has had a number of different coaching roles with BNB over the past nine years and also works with the Harvey High School women's varsity program.
The other nominees for Male Coach of the Year are Nick Blanton (Quispamsis, Artistic Gymnastics) and Steve LeBlanc (Riverview, Athletics).

The President's Award nominee list, which is presented to the top Male Athlete of the Year under the age of 18, includes Norman Burry (Fredericton) for his performance at the National Championships. Burry was named as a first-team all-star for the tournament. Other nominees include Jacob LeBlanc (Moncton, Para-Athletics and Para-hockey) and Patrick Talbot (Quispamsis, Artistic Gymnastics).

Fredericton, NB - Athletes who have represented New Brunswick throughout the world, coaches who have invested time and effort, and individuals who have volunteered countless hours, corporate supporters and outstanding members of the media were highlighted today, as Sport New Brunswick announced the names of the finalists for the annual Konica Minolta Sport Awards.

The Konica Minolta Sport Awards recognize the accomplishments of New Brunswick’s top athletes, teams, coaches, officials, and volunteers in amateur sport over the past year.   “New Brunswick can be very proud off all the people who were nominated,” said McKillop. “These are the types of people who inspire others to be great, and help see the value in sport participation. New Brunswickers can be very proud of these individuals”.

Nominations were submitted by a number of different organizations from throughout the Province. Finalists were selected based on their achievements from September 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019.  Konica Minolta’s support, as well as the other corporate sponsors InnVest Hotels, Boston Pizza, BrunNet, Teed Saunders Doyle & Co, Enterprise rent-a-car and Taylor Printing Group make these awards possible year after year. This year’s awards dinner and ceremony will be held in Fredericton at the Crowne Plaza Lord Beaverbrook Hotel on November 30th.  Tickets are available by calling Sport NB at (506)451-1320.
