BNB Service Awards - Officials Award

2021-06-10

Recipient: Dave McGrattan

This week we are announcing our 2021 Service Award recipients. We are thrilled to be recognizing five individuals and one club this week - we thank all our recipients for your contributions to the basketball community!

A congratulations goes our to Dave McGrattan who is the recipient of this year's Officials Award! This award is presented to an NBAABO official for their hard work and dedication as a basketball referee in NB.

DAVE McGRATTAN

"I started refereeing in 1990 when my father, Tom McGrattan (a past recipient of this award, and my greatest influence), would send me to work junior high and minor games. This has led to thirty years of officiating at the local, provincial, atlantic, professional and national levels.

My first national assignment was the 1996 National Junior Men’s Championships. That same year was my first as a full time member of the AUAA panel, and I continue to work in the ACAA and the AUS today. It was during this time that I also became a nationally certified wheelchair basketball official. In 2000, I was invited by Canada Basketball to represent New Brunswick at an international FIBA clinic. In 2007, professional basketball came to the Maritimes, which allowed me to work games in the ABA, the PBL and currently the NBLC. My national tournament assignments include the National Juvenile and Juniors, Jeux Canada Games, WCBC, CCAA and CIS/USport.

Learning from so many experienced and dedicated people has shaped my approach to the game. And I have had the opportunity to work with so many skilled officials and evaluators from coast to coast. BNB has provided constant support, which has allowed me, as well as my contemporaries, to develop throughout the years.

Now, as the Zone 4 South representative, I have the ability to build relationships with even more wonderful officials, as well as coaches, athletic directors and administrators."
