FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is providing additional support to New Brunswick sports organizations impacted by Level 2 and Level 3 of the winter plan to manage COVID-19.
A one-time financial relief of up to $10,000 is intended for not-for-profit sport organizations that have experienced financial loss due to cancelled programs or events because of the public health restrictions between Dec. 13, 2021, and Feb. 18, 2022.
“The sport sector, like every aspect of society, has been hit hard by COVID-19, and we want to make sure those organizations and programs are supported,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace. “The recent cancellation of sporting events and the restrictions on programming led to financial loss and increased participant drop out rates. The COVID-19 relief fund will help recovery efforts and support the survival and prosperity of the not-for-profit sport sector into the future.”
Applications for the funding will be accepted until March 11. More information on the fund, including application details, is available online.
Last year, through a partnership with the federal government, the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture distributed more than $3 million dollars to the New Brunswick sport and recreation sector to help alleviate the financial pressures from the impact of COVID-19.
FREDERICTON (GNB) – Le gouvernement provincial fournit une aide supplémentaire aux organismes de sport du Nouveau-Brunswick touchés par les phases 2 et 3 du plan pour l’hiver en réponse à la COVID-19.
Une aide financière unique, pouvant atteindre 10 000 $, est mise à la disposition des organismes de sport sans but lucratif qui ont essuyé des pertes financières à la suite de l’annulation de programmes ou d’événements en raison des restrictions de santé publique entre le 13 décembre 2021 et le 18 février 2022.
« Le secteur du sport, tout comme la société dans son ensemble, a été durement touché par la COVID-19, et nous voulons nous assurer que ces organismes et programmes sont appuyés », a déclaré la ministre du Tourisme, du Patrimoine et de la Culture, Tammy Scott-Wallace. « L’annulation récente d’événements sportifs et les restrictions imposées à la programmation des sports ont entraîné des pertes financières et augmenté les taux d’abandon chez les participants. Le fonds de rétablissement de la COVID-19 contribuera à l’effort de relance ainsi qu’à la survie et à la prospérité du secteur sportif sans but lucratif. »
Les demandes de financement seront acceptées jusqu’au 11 mars. De plus amples renseignements sur ce fonds et sur la présentation d’une demande sont disponibles en ligne.
L’an dernier, en partenariat avec le gouvernement fédéral, le ministère du Tourisme, du Patrimoine et de la Culture a distribué plus de 3 millions $ au secteur du sport et des loisirs du Nouveau-Brunswick pour alléger la pression financière exercée par la pandémie de COVID-19.
